Butler Softball Splits with Colby on the Road

After a thrilling extra inning grand slam by Briona Woods propelled the Grizzlies to 5-2 victory in game one, Butler fell in game two to the Colby Trojans 7-1.

Game One

The first game of the double header remained scoreless until the seventh inning when Kendyl Anderson sent one deep over the left field fence to put the first run on the scoreboard. Colby responded immediately with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh inning sending the game to extras. Briona Woods then broke the game open with a grand slam that put the Grizzlies ahead 5-1. Colby would plate a runner in the bottom of the eighth, but it would not be enough to catch the Grizzly lead.

Allyson Montgomery pitched a complete eight inning game and will claim the win advancing her record to 16-2.

Game 2

The final game of the road trip looked hopeful through the first couple of innings as the Grizzlies and Trojans were tied 1-1. Unfortunately, the Butler scoring would end there, and Colby would bring in six more runs to take the win.

The Grizzly Softball record becomes 29-10 on the season and 20-4 in conference play. Next up for Butler is a home series with Northern Oklahoma- Tonkawa on Monday at East Park at 1 and 3 p.m.
