CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After concluding a Grizzly career that saw her finish as the Butler Softball program leader for strikeouts in a career with 412, Allyson Montgomery was named to the NJCAA Division I Softball All-American Second Team when the awards were announced on Tuesday morning.
Montgomery appeared in 35 games for the Grizzlies this season while making 33 starts in the circle. She finished with an exceptional record of 25-4 and she threw 13 complete games. She tossed 163.2 innings this season, allowing just 51 earned runs for an ERA of 2.18. She finished the year with an unreal 260 strikeouts, the second most by any Grizzly pitcher in a single season, trailing only Maggie Ham's spectacular 2013 campaign where Ham struck out 288.
Her 260 strikeouts are tied for the fourth most in NJCAA Division I Softball this season. Her K/7 of 11.12 is sixth in the NJCAA this year and her 25 wins are tied for ninth.
On April 3rd against Dodge City, Montgomery set a new program record for strikeouts in a single game when she struck out 18 Conquistador batters in game one of the doubleheader.
The Grizzlies rode the standout pitching of Montgomery this season to both a Region VI and Plains District Championship and to the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series.
Montgomery was crucial in the Grizzlies opening round victory at the World Series over 9th seeded College of Southern Idaho. Montgomery threw six innings, allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out 12 in the Grizzlies exciting 4-1 win over the Golden Eagles.
Montgomery is one of two NJCAA All-Americans to come from Region VI Division I Softball, the other being Aspen Goetz of Hutchinson who was a third-team choice.
With Montgomery's All-American selection, it marks the 10th consecutive year that a Butler Softball player has received an All-American award and she is the 34th Butler Softball player to be selected to an NJCAA All-American team since 2005.
In addition to her All-American award, Montgomery is a 2x All-KJCCC First Team selection, and she was the KJCCC Division I Softball Most Valuable Player this season.
