Butler women beat No. 24 State Fair, open season 2-0

SEDALIA, Mo. – The Butler women's basketball team earned a pair of victories at the State Fair College Classic to open the 2013-14 season, including a 62-59 win over the nationally-ranked host team.

Butler opened the season on Friday against Jefferson College, winning 83-48. Te'era Williams led the way for Butler with 19 points, while Ashlee Ivy scored 11 and Terryauna Godwin and Ashley Gibson had 10 points apiece.

On Saturday, the Grizzlies faced No. 24-ranked State Fair. It was a battle throughout, with Butler leading for much of the first half until the Roadrunners scored the final five points of the period to go ahead 30-27 at the break.

Butler would regain the lead in the second half, getting up by as many as five late, then holding on at the free throw line over the final 90 seconds to get the win.

Williams again led Butler in scoring, this time with 16 points along with seven rebounds. Teanna Reid had 10 points and six assists while Ashley Gibson had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Butler, now 2-0, will return to the road this Friday to take on Murray State (Okla.).
