The ninth-ranked Butler women posted their largest margin of victory on the season in a 103-28 annihilation of Allen County on Wednesday at the Power Plant.
The victory is the 20th of the season for Butler, putting the Grizzlies at 20-1 overall and also keeping them in first place in the Jayhawk East Conference at 3-0.
Butler jumped out to an early 19-2 lead and never looked back. The Grizzlies posted a season-high 62 points in the first half and the 45-point halftime lead tied for the best halftime margin of the season, equaling the 57-12 lead over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa in a home game on Jan. 6.
Butler continued to roll in the second half, holding Allen scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the period as the Grizzlies went on a 20-0 run to push the lead to 65 points. Butler hit the century mark on a 3-pointer by Peyton Michalski with 46 seconds to play in the game.
The final margin of 75 points betters the 64-point win over Tabor JV in a 104-40 game on Dec. 2. It is the widest margin of victory for the Butler women since a 115-24 win at St. Gregory JV on Nov. 9, 2012.
Butler had relatively balanced scoring in the contest, led by 15 points from Ashley Gibson. Shayla Williams (13) and Te'era Williams (10) were the only other Grizzlies in double figures. Ashlee Ivy and Elayna Spilker scored nine apiece, Teanna Reid and Terryauna Godwin had eight each, Alli Heimerman scored seven, Shelbe VandeBerghe had six, Peyton Michalski had five, Bethan Howard scored three and Kynadi Johnson had two as every player in a Butler uniform made at least one shot from the floor.
The Grizzlies will continue their two-game homestand on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tipoff against Labette. The Cardinals will come at 13-7 after a road win at Neosho County on Wednesday.
