Women pick up 19th win of season; win third straight

The Butler women's basketball team holds strong with their one game KJCCC East lead after a 72-56 win over Allen on the road Saturday afternoon.

"We are always happy to get a road win," commented head coach Mike Helmer after Saturday's win. "They don't come easy in this conference, so when you can when on the road it is always a great feeling.

RaVon Nero led all scorers on the day finishing with 21 points, two assists, two steals, three rebounds and one block. Carissa Beck knocked down four three-pointers to finish with 12 points while teammate Camille Downs was one assist shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine assists in the game. Tamara Nard, although just playing eight minutes due to foul trouble, ended the night in double figures with 10 points on 4-6 shooting.

The Grizzlies held the Red Devils to just 31% shooting from the floor and 25% from behind the arc. They forced 23 turnovers while turning the ball over to Allen just 18 times.

"I thought that it was very much a business attitude," Helmer. "We had a job to do and that was the approach I felt from the team.

Butler (19-7, 12-4) will host Independence (13-9, 10-5) on Monday, February 10th at 5:30pm in the Power Plant for 'Pack the Power Plant Night', a night to honor and raise awareness for those suffering from cancer. Independence is just two games back of the Grizzlies in the East standings. Butler defeated the Pirates the first time around 69-61 in a crazy game in Independence, KS back on January 18th.
