Grizzlies pick up 31-point statement win over Red Ravens

The Butler Grizzlies dominated from start to finish with an 82-51 statement victory over the Coffeyville Red Ravens at the Power Plant to stay undefeated on the year.

The Grizzlies avenged a 69-61 loss to the Ravens when the two teams met on this same floor last year. This time, the Grizzlies cruised. It was the defense that led the way in the victory tonight, stifling the Ravens all game, holding them to just 23% from the field and forcing 23 turnovers. The Grizzlies earned 28 points off of Red Raven turnovers and held the Ravens to 4 of 29 from three. It was good enough for a 32-20 lead going into the locker room, and the Grizzlies would cruise from there, never trailing in the second half and sailing to the victory.

Offensively, it was a balanced night. Every Grizzly player scored, and Butler had four players reach double figures, led by Kaylee Nero's 17. Jada Knight had 14, Mallory Cowman had 11 and Mckayla Furman, coming off a KJCCC player of the week nomination, scored 12.

The Grizzlies shot 45% from the field, including a respectable 38% from behind the three point line, making eight threes on the night. The Grizzlies scored 58 bench points, and found 28 points in the paint, in a dominating night inside. The Grizzlies outrebounded the Ravens 44-33, led by Nero's 9. Butler also passed well, ending with 19 assists, led by four from Furman.

The win will improve the seventh ranked Grizzlies record to 10-0 on the year and 5-0 in conference play, and they will also stay unbeaten at home with a 6-0 record at the Power Plant. Next up for the Grizzlies will be a tough trip to Hutchinson to play against the Blue Dragons who are receiving votes in the polls.
