The Butler Women suffered their first loss of the season this past week 60-68 against Coffeyville on Wednesday, but the Grizzlies got a big bounce back win over then #11 ranked Hutchinson 55-40 Saturday afternoon to remain in the NJCAA Rankings.
The Grizzlies have now appeared in back-to-back NJCAA Polls after not appearing in any of the first four rankings of the season. The Butler Women have appeared in back-to-back NJCAA Rankings at least one time in each of the last four seasons. The Grizzlies are joined by only two other Jayhawk Conference teams in the latest poll, those teams being the Dodge City Conquistadors who are ranked at #21 and the Barton Cougars who are receiving votes. Dodge City is the only Jayhawk Conference team to gain spots in the poll this week. The Conqs went from unranked to 21st, the Grizzlies dropped from 22nd to 23rd, Barton went from 17th to receiving votes, and Hutchinson went from #11 to completely out of the poll.
Despite the loss for the Grizzlies, both Cloud County and Barton suffered a loss this week which means the Grizzlies are tied for first place in the Jayhawk Conference with Coffeyville with both teams being 5-1 in conference play.
The Grizzlies have three more games before they get to enjoy their Christmas break, all of which will be very important. The Grizzlies host #21 Dodge City on Wednesday, they play at Cloud County on Saturday, and then have a quick turnaround and will play #RV Barton the following Monday.
