Women’s Hoop Dirt Names Helmer NJCAA Coach of the Week

EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler women's basketball head coach Mike Helmer was named the Women's Hoop Dirt (WHoopDirt.com) NJCAA Coach of the Week, the publication announced on Tuesday morning.

Helmer is in his 16th season leading the Grizzlies who are ranked third in the nation currently. He owns a 344-139 record in his time at Butler and currently has the Grizzlies out to a 10-0 start to the season. Last week they went on the road and defeated #21 Coffeyville 68-50 before returning home and beating the Barton Cougars 55-41, snapping a three-game losing streak to the Cougars.

Highlights: The #3 NJCAA D1 team in the nation continued their winning ways last week. Helmer's Butler squad took down nationally ranked Coffeyville on the road on Wednesday, handing the hosts their first conference loss of the season. On Saturday, Butler held Barton to just two second quarter points, and 28% shooting from the field for the game on their way to a 55-41 victory. Butler is now 10-0, the second time in three seasons they have reached that mark."
