Grizzlies use 26 hit performance in Dodge City to take two games on the road; lead series 2-0

The Butler Baseball team (14-8, 11-7) have now won four straight picking up two solid wins on the road at Dodge City Thursday evening winning 15-3 and hanging on in game two winning 8-7.

With the two wins, Butler moves to fourth place in the KJCCC West standings, four games back of leader Hutchinson who is 15-3 in KJCCC West play.

Game one featured starting pitcher Garrett DeHaas throwing six strong innings giving up just three runs off four hits. He walked two and struck out six. Cade Phelps closed it out in the seventh for Butler retiring all three batters faced striking out two and forcing a final out groundout to first.

DeHass was supported by an offense that took a few innings to get going but once they did, they really got the bats going. Butler was held scoreless in the first two innings but a rally in the third headed off by Jackson Syring got the momentum started for the Grizzlies. Butler scored four runs in the third and then had three run innings in the fourth and fifth. They added another in the sixth and hammered in the nail in the top of the seventh plating four.

Bryce Zimmerer was 5-5 with four runs scored and three RBI's in game one with a double and three stolen bases. Jonah Cox was 3-5 in the game with two runs, a double and two stolen bases.

Game two took a 7-1 lead after five and then got a little lax and comfortable. Dodge City had an answer scoring two in the seventh, one in the eighth and threatened in the bottom of the ninth starting with back-to-back doubles and then a two-run homerun with no outs in the inning and trailing 8-7. Zach Nagle, Butler closer settled in after giving up three hits to start the innings, and forced a foul out, struck out the next batter and forced a ground out to second to end it with Butler hanging on 8-7.

Braden Meek picked up his third win of the season going six complete innings allowing three runs, two earned off six hits. He walked one and struck out four batters. Bryce Zimmerer had another solid game at the plate going 3-4 in game two with two runs scored and two RBI's. Jonah Cox was 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI's and three stolen bases with a double. Josh Cameron hit a two-run homerun bringing his season total to nine.

NEXT UP: Butler (14-8, 11-7) will host Dodge City on Saturday, April 10 for games three and four of the four game set. First pitch scheduled for 1:00pm at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado.
