Butler Baseball Opens Season with Doubleheader Sweep in Oklahoma

It was a successful day at the ballpark for the Butler Grizzlies as they opened up the season with a doubleheader sweep against Northwest Oklahoma State's JV team.

Game 1 

The Grizzlies dominated in the opening game of their Oklahoma day-trip beating the NWOSU Ranger's JV squad 10-1. Beginning the game with a four run second inning that propelled them ahead offensively. Justin Hudson came in to score three time in the game, followed by Markus Hamre, and Brock Lummus with two runs each. Triston Speaker provided two RBI's for the team, while five other Grizzlies provided one. Izack Tiger started the game for the pitching staff and had 8 strikeouts in 3 innings of work, giving up just one hit with the Rangers only run coming to the plate on a wild pitch. The pitching staff totaled 14 strikeouts in the seven inning game.

Game 2

It was a staff effort on the mound for the Grizzlies in the second game of the day; utilizing 6 arms to defeat NWOSU JV 10-5. William Humphrey provided a three-up-three-down seventh inning in his first outing for the Grizzlies. Dylan Rinker will claim the win. Offensively, Josh Holmes, Anibal Rivera, and Hayden Dyer each provided the Grizzlies with two RBI's. Brock Kuehler proved to be a tough out, with two hits, and two walks, while scoring three of Butler's ten runs. 

Butler is now 2-0 to open the season and their next outing will be in Edmond, Oklahoma at the JUCO Spring Festival beginning on February 16th. They will face both Crowder College and Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Thursday, followed by Rose State College Friday.

NOTES: Butler Baseball also opened their season with a doubleheader against NWOSU JV in the previous 2022 season. The Grizzlies swept the Rangers 14-3 in the first game, and 15-4 in the second...The Grizzlies have now won their season opener in six consecutive seasons dating back to 2017...
