Grizzlies Drop Final game to DMACC Ending the Series 3-1

Butler Baseball was unable to pull-off the series sweep against Des Moines Area Community College after defeating them in the first three games of the series and dropping the final game by one run.

Game One

Game one of the series saw a 6-3 victory for the Grizzlies as they took down the DMACC Bears for the third game in a row. Des Moines took the lead early with one run scoring in the top of the first, and the Grizzlies answered back scoring one run in the bottom. It was in the bottom of inning two that Butler did the most of their damage, scoring three runs on a Hayden Dyer double to right center that brought in Alan Benhardt, Josh Holmes, and Triston Speaker. Innings three and four were scoreless for both teams. The Bears battled back scoring one run in the top of both the fifth and sixth innings. Butler finished things off adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth from a Justin Hudson double that scored Holmes and Speaker.

William Humphrey started on the mound and threw four innings, facing sixteen batters, giving up two hits and one run with five strikeouts, claiming the win. He was followed in relief by Dylan Rinker who threw two innings, facing eleven batters, giving up runs on two hits and striking out three. Blake Werry closed things out for the Grizzlies and claimed the save.

Game Two

Des Moines took an early lead in the final game of the series, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. From there, it was Butler working inning by inning in attempt to steal the lead. The Grizzlies fell just short losing 5-4.

It was a staff effort from the Grizzly pitching staff as Zach Brink pitched one and two thirds' innings, followed by Tyler Leachner pitching three and one third innings and Tate Rico finishing things up in the final two innings of the game.

Butler Baseball is back at home at McDonald Stadium on Tuesday to take on the Neosho County Panthers at 1 p.m. before beginning conference play hosting Seward County on Thursday.
