Butler Baseball Splits with #7 Barton at Home

The Grizzlies took down the #7 Barton Cougars 8-3 in game one of the Thursday double header, before dropping game two 17-8.

Game One

Izack Tiger will claim the win after throwing a complete seven inning game in the Butler 8-3 victory over Barton, giving up two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and no batters walked.

Brock Lummus had two RBIs in the game, the first scoring Josh Holmes on a triple in the first inning, and the second also scoring Holmes on a single in the bottom of the third. Cole Murrell had a 2 RBI homer in the second inning that brought in Brock Toothaker. Garrett Fager joined in on the homerun action with a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the fourth followed by an Alan Benhart RBI single that brought in Holmes. In the bottom of the fifth, Markus Hamre reached first on an error that Brock Kuehler was able to score on. Both the Cougars and the Grizzlies put up a run in the sixth inning as Kuehler had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Tiger shut the Barton offense down in the top of the seventh and the game ended 8-3.

Game Two

The second game of the day was not as favorable to the Grizzlies as they fell 17-8. Cole Murrell had his second homer of the day and totaled three RBIs in the loss. Joining him in hits out of the park were Josh Holmes and Anibal Rivera.

The nine inning game saw seven different Butler pitchers on the mound. Zach Brink will take the loss as Barton's Ivan Cox claims the win for the Cougars.

The Grizzly Baseball record becomes 24-16 overall, and 11-7 in conference as we head into the second half of the series with the Barton Cougars. The games previously scheduled for Saturday have been moved to Sunday at 1 & 3 p.m.
