Butler Claims Two Victories over Dodge City

The Grizzlies took down the visiting Dodge City Conquistadors 4-2 in game one of the double header at McDonald Stadium, and finished them off with a 5-2 game two victory.

Game One

Cole Murrell started things off in the second inning, hitting a home run, bringing in Alan Benhardt and giving Butler a 2-0 lead. The Conquistadors rallied back in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 2-2. However, in the bottom of the fourth, Butler's Benhardt hit a home run, putting Butler back in the lead. Later in the inning, Brock Toothaker hit a double, bringing in Brock Lummus and giving Butler a 4-2 lead. Butler's pitcher, Izack Tiger, had another impressive game, pitching all seven innings and allowing only four hits and two runs while striking out eight.

Game Two

Butler had a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to a double by Brock Lummus that brought in Justin Hudson and Garrett Fager. The game was close until the fourth inning when Hayden Dyer singled to right field, allowing Brock Kuehler to score. The Grizzlies continued to add runs to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings thanks to RBIs from Alan Benhardt and Cole Murrell, respectively. Dodge City tried to make a comeback in the fifth and seventh innings, scoring one run each, but it wasn't enough to overcome the lead that Butler had built. Caden Kickhaefer pitched well for Butler, allowing only one run in six innings and earning the win, while Zach Brink closed out the game with three strong innings.

The Grizzlies improve to 31-18 this season, and 17-9 in conference as they prepare for a road trip to Dodge City Saturday to finish the series with the Conquistadors.
