Butler runs shutout streak to four with 4-0 win at Allen

IOLA, Kan. - Butler soccer kept pace atop the Jayhawk Conference standings by posting its fourth consecutive shutout with a 4-0 win at Allen County on Sunday afternoon.

The Grizzlies (11-2-0 overall, 7-0-0 conference) remained undefeated in conference play and are tied with Johnson County for first place in the standings.

Butler jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead over Allen on a pair of Paige Achey goals. Achey scored the opening goal in the 14th minute, when the Devils failed to clear out a Jaclyn Means pass through the box. Achey chipped in the pass from the left side of the goal.

In the 42nd minute, Dalia Fernandez sent a high pass behind the Allen defense, which Achey tracked down, then beat 1-on-1 with Allen keeper Emily Mitchell for the second goal.

Sheree Molina put the Grizzlies up 3-0 in the 69th minute, scoring a left-footed shot inside the box on a pass from Lexi Clark.

Butler's final goal came with less than five minutes remaining when Colleen Howland passed the ball on the end line to an open Dalia Fernandez, who tapped it into the net past Mitchell.

Butler outshot Allen 26-4 with 10 shots on goal, while the Devils managed just three shots - all in the first half - against Grizzly goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger, who posted her 10th shutout of the season.

Through seven conference games, the Grizzlies have now outscored KJCCC opponents by a 51-1 margin.

Next up for Butler will be a home match against Garden City this Friday. Kickoff from BG Products Veterans Sports Complex is at 5 p.m. The Grizzlies will finish out the 2015 regular season by hosting four of the final five games at home.
