Winkle and Bonilla claim KJCCC ‘Player of the Week’ Honors

It was a big second week of the season for the Butler Grizzlies as they faced a tough Navarro Bulldog team who was ranked No. 5 in the country last Saturday in Wichita, KS.

The Grizzles shut out the Bulldogs in a tough bout 1-0 and came away victorious. Lexi Winkle, sophomore goal keeper from Derby, Kansas kept the Bulldogs out of the net blocking three hard shots in the frame from Navarro in the 1-0 victory.

Pricsila Bonilla, sophomore mid-fielder from Garland, TX, netted the 55th minute game winner over the Bulldogs giving, at the time, eighth ranked Butler the big national win over fifth ranked Navarro

Since the 'Player of the Week' voting, the Grizzlies have defeated No. 7 Lewis & Clark, 1-0 in overtime as well as knocking of conference opponent Kansas City Kansas 3-2 in overtime Wednesday night. Both Bonilla and Winkle played a big part in Monday's win over Lewis & Clark. Winkle finished with eight saves, serving up her second shutout over a top 10 NJCAA team in one week. Bonilla set up the game winning goal in overtime with a beautiful cross to a streaking Karter Corini who scored a header goal in the 99th minute to win the game.

Butler (5-1-0, 1-0) is back at home this Saturday, September 7th at 2:00pm in a conference matchup when they host Cowley College (3-1-0, 1-0) at BG Product Veterans Sports Complex.
