Grizzlies open Jayhawk play with 3-0 win over Kansas City Kansas

After losing back-to-back games to the Blue Devils in the spring of 2021, the Grizzlies sought their revenge in the Jayhawk Conference season opener defeating Kansas City Kansas 3-0.

The No. 12-ranked Grizzlies asserted their will all night on their home pitch over the Blue Devils controlling the ball most of the game. Butler got on the board early scoring in the 12th minute off a penalty kick capitalized on by Iyanla Bailey Williams. That 1-0 lead would carry Butler through the entire first half.

The Grizzlies were a little more effective offensively in the second half scoring in the 50th minute off a rebound from Kim McAlpine and then again in the 54th minute off a great pass from Kenzee Godwin that found Natalie Amaya who buried the ball into the net.

Butler had a handful of other opportunities that they didn't capitalize on finishing the game with 24 shots, with eight of those on goal. Kyrah Klumpp posted a shutout recording four saves in the match, her second shutout of the season.

The Grizzlies are now 3-3-1 this season and 1-0 in KJCCC action and improve their lead in the all-time series against Kansas City Kansas 12-3. Butler will host archrival Hutchinson on Saturday, September 11th at 6:00pm at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
