Godwin scores four goals as the Grizzlies advance to Region VI Championship game

Kenzie Godwin scored four goals as the Butler Grizzlies defeated the Barton Cougars, 5-1 in the semifinal round of the Region VI tournament at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita on Wednesday morning.

Godwin, who added an assist to her tally, opened the scoring in the first half, finishing a breakaway that was assisted by Kim Mcalpine. Godwin would turn provider for the second goal of the game, putting in a cross that found Joy Ngibuini at the back post to put the Grizzlies ahead by two goals in the 20th minute. Godwin would get her second just before halftime, assisted by Meghann Windsutton, and the Grizzlies would go into the half up 3-0.

Barton would open the scoring in the second half, scoring on a penalty shot to cut the deficit to 3-1, and the second half would be mostly even, as the shot total was 10-9 in favor of the Grizzlies. Kyrah Klumpp kept Barton at bay after the penalty, finishing the game with five saves. Butler made their chances count, as Godwin finished her hat trick in the 79th minute to restore Butler's three goal lead. She would remove any lingering doubt three minutes later, scoring her fourth goal of the contest and making it 5-1 in favor of the Grizzlies.

Butler's win will improve the team's record to 16-4-1, and will improve their winning streak to seven consecutive games. They'll look to finish the job on Saturday in the Region VI Championship game, when they play against the Cowley Tigers at Stryker Sports Complex at 6:00.
