The Butler Grizzlies Women's Soccer Program added to their team history and prestige on Wednesday when seven Grizzlies earned All-Region VI Honors with a Region VI leading four first-team selections and three second team selections.
Defender Madeline Boman, forwards Brooke Sullivan and Kenzee Godwin, and midfielder Brooklyn Hunter were named to the first team while midfielders Meghann Wingsutton and Yossi Vilagrana and goalkeeper Kyrah Klumpp were named to the second team.
Defender Madeline "Madi" Boman was fantastic from her centre-back position all season for the Grizzlies. While Boman was the Grizzlies key defensive piece on the back line, she was also solid on the attacking side of the ball, particular on corner kicks where she used her head to score five goals this season and also added a pair of assists.
Kenzee Godwin finished her incredible career with a hat trick in the final game of the season, a national tournament game against Monroe College. She finished her season with 19 goals, including six game winners, and eight assists, totaling 46 points.
The other All Region and All Conference forward for Butler, Brooke Sullivan, was neck and neck with Godwin in the goals department all season. She finished with 16 goals and five assists. She scored the first goal in Evans, Georgia in the national tournament, putting a header into the net to open the scoring against Salt Lake in Butler's first game.
Brooklyn Hunter was Butler's do everything midfielder all season. She led the conference in assists with 19, and finished with two goals and 23 points. She scored the game winning goal against Barton at home to clinch the regular season title.
Meghann Wingsutton was steady in the middle of the pitch all year for Butler. She started all 24 games and was a part of seven clean sheets, and tallied four assists along the way.
Adam Hunter described Yossi Vilagtana as a pivotal member of his squad before the team left for the national tournament, and with good reason. The Wichita native played her best soccer at the end of the season. She was a key part of the Region VI Semi-Final win against Hutchinson and scored one of the biggest goals of the season, an equalizer in the Region VI Championship against Barton. She finished with four goals and eight assists for 16 points.
Kyrah Klumpp was one of the best goalkeepers in the country in 2022. She allowed just 25 goals in 20 games, for an average of just 1.29, she earned 102 saves and six shutouts. She saved a penalty in the penalty shootout against Barton and made 11 saves in a shutout victory when the two teams played each other during the regular season.
These Grizzlies guided coach Adam Hunter's squad to their third consecutive Region VI Championship game appearance, 13th KJCCC East Title, and 10th NJCAA National Tournament appearance.
