Grizzlies drop home opener in 3-0 loss to No. 7 Seward

The Butler volleyball team fell in their home opener to the defending KJCCC Champs and No. 7 ranked Seward Saints in straight sets; 25-20, 25-21 and 25-16.

Butler (7-3, 2-2) put up a great effort in each set, especially the first two, where they had chances late to win both sets but were unable to close them out. Winning a set over the Saints is something the Grizzlies haven't done since September 2, 2016 and the next chance will have to wait until later this season.

Sophomore Jaryn Benning finished the night with a team high eight kills, 13 digs and five blocks. Carly Clennan had her best game at the net totaling seven blocks in the match. Caitlyn Rexroat had four kills and five digs in the match while Milayna Hollinger, Mallory Cowman and Sydney Morrow each finished with three kills apiece.

As a team the Grizzlies had a .133 hitting % and committed 14 attack errors, something you can't do against a top 10 team and expect to win. Butler also committed six serving errors, two late in the first set, that hindered their chances of a win.

NEXT UP: Butler will host a triangular on Monday, February 15. They will play Rose State College at 3:00pm and Northeast Oklahoma A&M at 7:00pm. Rose and NEO will play each other in between games at 5:00pm.
