Grizzlies fall in five-set thriller Saturday afternoon

The Butler Volleyball team fell in a five-set thriller to the Barton Cougars Saturday afternoon in the Power Plant. 

After dropping the first set 25-22 to the Cougars to start the match, Butler responded in sets one and two with a 25-22 win and 25-15 win. They had a chance to put it away in the fourth set but a late run from the Cougars gave them the 25-19 win and sent the match to a fifth set winner take all. Barton carried the momentum over from their fourth set win and won 15-9 to take the match.

Jaryn Benning led the team in kills finishing with 14 in the match. She added in 18 digs and three blocks with one ace. Carly Clennan finished with 11 kills hitting .375% in the match with seven blocks. Milayna Hollinger blocked seven balls and had six kills. Sydney Hefty led with 22 digs and two serving aces. Sydney Morrow finished with three aces and 16 digs to go along with her five kills. Jessie Nibarger had a season high 26 set assists in the five-set loss.

NEXT UP: Butler (10-7, 5-5) have a busy week as they host Colby on Monday, March 8th at 6:30pm in the Power Plant. They also will play host to Dodge City at home on Thursday at 6:00pm and Garden City on Friday at 6:30pm.
