Butler Volleyball finishes season in Colby with 3-1 first round playoff loss

The Butler Volleyball team finished out their season with a first round Region VI playoff loss on the road at Colby on Tuesday night losing 3-1 in the match.

It was a tight first set battle, one you would expect for the four/five seed matchup. Both teams competed hard to win the first set and take the lead, but it was Colby who made the plays late to win set one 25-22. The Grizzlies had an answer in set two as they jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead to start the set. Colby mounted an amazing comeback tying the set at 23 before losing the next two points and fell 25-23 in the set. Butler fell behind early in the third set and couldn't piece together any significant runs to tie or take the lead and fell behind 2-1 in sets with a 25-20 loss. At this point Colby had all the momentum with the crowd behind them and they used it to their advantage winning the fourth and final set 25-13 to take the match 3-1 over Butler.

Jaryn Benning led Butler with a team high 12 kills and 11 digs with three blocks. Caitlyn Rexroat finished with 25 digs to lead the team and six kills. Sydney Morrow and Carly Clennan both had seven kills and Milayna Hollinger had a team high five blocks.

Butler finishes the season with a 14-10 overall record and finished fifth in the KJCCC going 9-7 in conference play, their third straight season coming in fifth. There were a number of firsts for this young Butler team with a lot of promise and the chance to return a handful of players who got a lot of time and experience on the court as freshmen. The Grizzlies are now 47-37 under head coach Lisa Lechtenberg in three seasons at Butler.
