Grizzlies roll; now on 27 set winning streak

The No. 16-ranked Butler volleyball team (13-2, 3-0) picked up a big road win Wednesday night in Great Bend as they defeated the Barton Cougars in straight sets 25-22, 25-16, 25-14.

Butler is now on a nine game and 27 set win streak and picked up their first win over Barton since the 2017 season. The win also snapped Barton's seven game win steak and handed them their first KJCCC loss this season.

Set one was back and forth most of the way until the Grizzlies put together a sting of points to take a lead, one they carried out the rest of the way. Set two saw Butler take a 6-0 lead right out the chute and never look back while set three, the Grizzlies started out behind but battled through and came out on top.

Ivy Fink posted a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs on the night hitting .290. Kayli Duncan finished with nine kills, hitting .368 and finished with seven blocks. Macie Shaver had 21 set assists while Caitlyn Rexroat, three-time KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 14 digs to lead the team.

Butler still has more in the tank offensively as they only hit .198 as a team but made up for that defensively. Not a lot of balls are getting put down on this Butler defense as the Grizzlies have a dominant presence at the net along with a strong and quick back row.

Butler is now the lone KJCCC team without a loss in conference. They have their work cut out for them this weekend as they compete in the Blue Dragon Classic hosted by Hutchinson and take on No. 1-ranked Iowa Western, No. 9 Missouri State West Plains and No. 17 Mineral Area over the course of Friday and Saturday.

This is the best start to a season for head coach Lisa Lechtenberg now in her fourth season with the team.
