Grizzlies take three game lead in conference with 3-0 win over Barton Saturday night

The Butler Grizzlies won their 23rd match in a row, and their 11th straight conference match, defeating the Barton Cougars in straight sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) at the Power Plant on Saturday.

With the win, the Grizzlies take a three game lead at the top of the conference and improve to 27-2 on the year, and they are yet to lose at home on the year.

The first set saw a close encounter, with the teams trading points in a set that saw plenty of long rallies. The Grizzlies jumped out to a 10-5 start, but Barton hung in to keep it close at 18-13, before a key 7-5 run ultimately swung the set in favor of the Grizzlies. Carly Clennan starred with four kills and the Grizzlies combined for four aces.

The second set saw a hot Grizzlies start, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. They were able to carry that momentum throughout the set as they led the entire way, ultimately winning the second set, 25-19. Jaryn Benning and Vanja Przulj both starred with four kills and Macie Shaver helped with six assists.

The Grizzlies have gone nearly a month without losing a set, and that streak was not going to be broken tonight, as the Grizzlies once again jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back, winning the set 25-16.

The Grizzlies combined for 12 aces on the night, including five from Jaryn Benning. Benning also led the team in kills with nine. Carly Clennan led the team defensively with eight blocks, and the Grizzlies combined for 37 digs.

Butler will return to action on Monday as they travel to Colby to try and extend their winning streak and remain unbeaten in conference play.
