Butler advances to first Region VI semifinal since 2014

Make it 29-straight wins for the No. 3-ranked Grizzlies who advance to the Region VI semifinal round after a 3-0 straight set win over Pratt in the opening round of the tournament.

Butler will now face the winner of Dodge City/Colby who are set to play this evening in Dodge City. The semifinals will take place on Friday, November 5 in El Dorado inside the Power Plant with the Grizzlies playing the 5:00pm game and Barton will take on Seward/Hutch after game one.

It wasn't the cleanest of matches for the Grizzlies, but they did what they needed to do in order to keep their season alive and advance to the next round.

Pratt put the Grizzlies on the ropes late in the first set tying the match at 20-20 before Butler finished the match on a 5-2 run closing out the set 25-22. Kayli Duncan led the way in set one setting the tone of how her night would go finishing with six kills.

Set two was the Kayli Duncan show as she recorded four kills and eight blocks in the second set dominating the net. The Beavers hung around early in the set, but the net presence and aggressive offensive play quickly shut down the Beavers as Butler finished the set 25-15.

Set three saw Butler finish what they started giving no breathing room to Pratt leading by a wide margin all the way through winning 25-15 and ending the Beavers season winning in straight sets.

Both Kayli Duncan and Vanja Przulj finished the night with 11 kills each. Duncan also had eight blocks in the match. Rainey Aven served a season high four aces in the match while Caitlyn Rexroat finished with 16 digs.

With the win, Butler advances to their first Region VI semifinal round since 2014 and will host the winner of Dodge City versus Colby. That match will take place at 5:00pm on Friday, November 5th in El Dorado inside the Power Plant.
