Duncan and Benning named NJCAA Volleyball All-Americans

Two Butler Grizzlies volleyball players saw their names on the NJCAA All-American list when it was released by the NJCAA National Office Wednesday morning.

For the first time since 2012 and the first time since competing in NJCAA Div. I Volleyball, Butler has not one but two players named to the All-American team by the NJCAA. Sophomore Kayli Duncan was selected to the first team, while junior Jaryn Benning received honorable mention honors.

Duncan came from the same high school as Hanna Flaming, Butler's last all American, out of local Circle High School, as they were both Thunderbirds before coming to Butler.

Duncan started in all 41 games for Butler this season, as she was also awarded first team KJCCCC honors. She finished her sophomore season with 300 kills, she ranked first in the nation with block assists, with 209, and blocks, total, with 220. She was second in the country with blocks per set, averaging 1.64. She was named the NJCAA player of the week in September.

Jaryn Benning, in her third year as a member of the Grizzlies, also started in all 41 games. She starred offensively for the Grizzlies all year, her 345 kills were good enough for 40th in the country. Her season high 16 kills came against eventual national champions Iowa Western. She was 16th in the country in total points, with 460.5. She also among the top defensively, joining Kayli in the top 10 in block assists, as her 129 was good for seventh.

Kayli and Jaryn were two key players in a season which saw the Grizzlies tie the program record for most wins in a season and advance to the final four of the national tournament for the first time in program history.
