Volleyball dominates in back-to-back matches to close out Trinidad State Tournament

TRINIDAD, Colo. – No time was wasted on Saturday afternoon as Butler volleyball dominated both Frank Phillips College and Clarendon College on the final day of the tournament in the centennial state to move to 5-3 on the season.

They have now won three straight matches heading into Wednesday's bout at Cloud County at Arley Bryant Gymnasium with a start time of 6:30 p.m. CT.

Match 1: No. 17 Butler 3, Frank Phillips College 1 (25-21, 25-11, 25-27, 25-11)

Butler's first match of the afternoon was back-and-forth. Sets one and three were close with Butler taking the first 25-21 and dropping the third, 27-25. Sets two and four were both Grizzly beatdowns, 25-11 for both. In sets three and four Butler hit .526 and .500.

Sydney Lentz led the Grizzlies with 14 kills, hitting at a .682 clip while also adding four blocks. Raven Boone led Butler with a season-high 10 blocks. Anja Milosevic had a team-high 23 assists and six digs while Laynee Brown led with 10 digs.

Match 2: No. 17 Butler 3, Clarendon College 0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-10)

Butler continued its impressive play into the final match of the tournament as they quickly swept Clarendon in straight sets, their second sweep of the season.

The Grizzlies hit above .400 in all three sets and held the Bulldogs to 11 and 10 points in the final two sets. Lentz once again led Butler with 13 kills on a team-high .571 hitting to go with four blocks. Boone also finished with double-digit kills, adding 10 of her own. Milosevic led with 38 assists while Laynee Brown posted a team-high 14 digs.
